The City of Laramie is looking for volunteers for a Waste Characterization Study at the Laramie Landfill/Recycling Center later this month

The study is planned to learn more about what types of materials are finding their way into the Laramie waste stream to help identify opportunities for waste diversion and possible expansion of recycling programs.

How Will It Work?

Standard landfill operations will continue, but with a twist from normal. That is because every so often a designated waste truck that would normally head straight to the landfill will instead be diverted to a survey location. Volunteers and city staffers will then sort through the trash and categorize it.

Qualifications For Volunteers

Here are the guidelines for volunteers according to a city news release:

Volunteer Requirements

The City is seeking individuals to assist with the sorting process. Please note the following participation guidelines:

  • Dates: Tuesday, April 21st – Friday, April 24th.
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers must sign up for 4-hour or 8-hour blocks.
    • Note: To maintain data consistency and operational flow, partial shifts (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, or 7 hours) cannot be accommodated.
  • Environment: This is a hands-on outdoor activity at the landfill. Participants should be prepared for physical activity, varying weather conditions, and understand that the job requires the handling of refuse.
  •
