A Cheyenne native has joined the ranks of the Cheyenne Police Department, the agency in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning said.

Deven Nevarez was sworn in Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, during a ceremony at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center.

"Nevarez shared that protecting his hometown as a police officer has been a life-long dream," the post reads.

Nevarez is the first officer to be sworn in this year.

He'll now attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas for 12 weeks, before advancing to the CPD's Field Training Program for 14 weeks.
