A missing snowmobiler was safely found by the Albany County Sheriff's Office with help from Search and Rescue volunteers on Monday evening, Feb. 23.

That's according to a release from the sheriff's office.

According to the release, the sheriff's office got a report at around 6:15 p.m. about a snowmobiler who was overdue in the Widow Maker/Medicine Bow Peak area. According to the report, the person had gone riding alone from the Green Rock Picnic Area.

More concerns were raised when someone reported finding a snowmobile stuck near the Widow Maker Peak Area with no rider in sight and footprints leading away from the machine.

Sheriff's deputies investigated the available information, including the person's cellphone, which showed a Carbon County location. When that happened, Albany County Search and Rescue and Intermountain Flight and Rescue were activated.

The missing snowmobiler, who is not being identified by the sheriff's office, was eventually found not far from where the snowmobile was found. They were taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital, where they received medical treatment for exhaustion and dehydration.

On the words of the release "We are grateful to the witness who spoke up and to the deputies, search and rescue volunteers, medical crews, and Laramie/Albany County Records and Communications who worked together to bring this person home safely. This incident is a reminder of how quickly conditions can change in the back country. Please avoid riding alone, let someone know your plans, and carry emergency equipment such as fire-starting tools, satellite-based SOS or emergency locator devices, and/or get a FRS/GMRS capable radio and program it to the 307 channel as these preparations can save lives."
