Cheyenne Police have arrested one man and are trying to find a second suspect in connection with a Thursday night motorcycle theft, according to a CPD news release.

According to the release, police were called to the area of West 17th Street and Bent Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday on a report of suspicious activity.  An officer found two men drilling into the ignition of a  2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 motorcycle.

. As the officer approached, one of the suspects, later identified as 29-year-old Paul Lamphier, a transient, fled westbound on foot on Lincolnway. He was arrested for damaging property, possession of a controlled substance, and malicious mischief. Police say he was also found in possession of stolen property from a previous case.

Since the Laramie County jail was not able to accept Lamphier on felony charges and an outstanding warrant for larceny, he was transported to the Platte County jail in Wheatland so that he would remain in custody on a misdemeanor charge of damaging property.

Police say the investigation into the case is ongoing and that they have identified the other suspect in the case. The CPD is also reminding people to take steps to protect their property, according to the release:

To reduce theft and protect property, the Cheyenne Police Department reminds vehicle operators to “Lock it or Lose it.” Ensure all valuables are removed from vehicles or hidden, that the vehicle is locked, that the keys are secured in a safe location away from the vehicle, and that the vehicle is never left running while unattended. Officers encourage citizens to report any and all suspicious activity. Contact the Cheyenne Police Department dispatch center with tips at (307) 637-6525.
