At this Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony trophies will be passed out to some of the lesser known artists who make a big impact on the movies we watch, the Foley artists and sound engineers.

During the production of a movie the actors are miked to catch all of their dialogue but almost all of the background sounds are not recorded at that time, they are added in later. Sometimes it's amazing what the Foley artists use to create some of the sounds.

It reminds me of Monty Python's Holy Grail where the knights are followed around by a man with coconuts making the sounds of horse's hooves. After watching this video you may never hear a movie the same again.
