Have you ever tried a bierock? The original hot pocket was brought to the United States by German immigrants fleeing Russia in the late 19th century. These days, the best bierocks on the planet are four hours east of Cheyenne in the small town of McCook, Nebraska.

Sehnert's Bakery and Bieroc Cafe is an institution in the Cornhusker State. The Sehnert family has been stuffing yeast rolls with cabbage, kraut, meat, and onions for over six decades. Founded by Walt and Jean in 1957, their son Matt and his wife Shelly took over in 1991. Yesterday, they were recognized with a James Beard Award, the highest honor for American restaurants, at a ceremony in Chicago.

Over the years, Sehnert's has become synonymous with German heritage in the region and bierocks earned the nickname "Nebraska meat pockets". Today, their kraut burger and others like it are considered one of the most beloved dishes in the midwest.

Along with the classic bierock, Sehnert's is also known for their "Jiffy Burger", which comes with a special mustard sauce. They also serve a variety of desserts, pastries, salads, sandwiches, and soups.
