Check Out Post-Punk Legends Reimagined as Marvel Superheroes
What's cooler than Siouxsie Sioux? Nothing, really, but Siouxsie as Marvel Comics' the Scarlet Witch is a whole new level of awesome.
Thanks to artist Butcher Billy we don't have to imagine what that would look like. An art director working and living in Brazil, Butcher Billy (who previously depicted New Wave and post-punk musicians as DC Comics' Superfriends) has reimagined everybody from Morissey to Billy Idol as Marvel superheroes. The results are amazing, even more so if (like some of us) you're drowning in stacks of both comics and records from your misspent youth.
On his Behance website, the artist explains his motivation:
As a child of the 80's I was heavily influenced by everything from Saturday morning cartoons on TV to the music coming from the radio. Ian Curtis or Johnny Rotten are as iconic to me as Superman or Batman. Real people or imaginary characters, the incorruptible ideals of perfect superheroes or the human flaws and desires sometimes so desperately depicted in song lyrics - all of those influences affect us to the point of defining our character and personality, career paths and life choices.
Check out some examples in the gallery above. Interested in buying a print? Check out Butcher Billy's website for more, but fair warning: If you take the last Mark Mothersbaugh as Iron Man we're going to fight.
