Savannah Whittecar, a 2022 Cheyenne East High School graduate, recently earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn.

The rough equivalent of Scouts BSA's Eagle Scout rank, the Gold Award is awarded to less than 6% of Girl Scouts each year.

For her Gold Award project, Whittecar created a starter fund aimed at helping first-time FFA showmen housing their show animals at the school farm care for and buy supplies for their animals.

To help sustain the fund and eventually support more FFA students, those who receive the funding are required to pay the money back plus 10% interest.

“Students are still required to pay the school farm fees on their own so they feel the need to work hard on their project,” said Whittecar.

Whittecar also decided the school farm was in need of goat accommodations, so she cleared out pens that were being used for storage, added an automatic waterer, worked with another FFA Chapter to weld a fence outside so the goats had a small area to run around in, and built a ramp and door for the goats to get in and out.

“I was very involved in my FFA Chapter, being the reporter and vice president during my time there (and) I knew I wanted to pick a project that would support the FFA, as I am very passionate about it," Whittecar said of her decision to create the starter fund and build the new goat accommodations.
