In Autumn of 1971, he had a song and an album each at the top of the sales charts in America and Europe. Forty-seven years later, he’s still rockin’ with his signature sandpaper & soul voice.

A truly global phenomenon, Rod Stewart continues to play to sold-out crowds on all the continents. Now he is set to play in our backyard this summer.

He was born on a January 1945 day when German bombs were falling in their London suburb. His two parents and four siblings were huddled in their backyard bomb shelter. Though born a Brit, he identified with his Scotland roots.

He liked making music, but he loved playing soccer, even though he quit his team because he had to get up too early and clean their gear. He bummed around Europe, sleeping under bridges and was so disgustingly dirty, that when he returned home, his father stripped off his clothes and tossed him in the bath. Dad also told him to get a job and Rod did, digging graves with a shovel.

In 1963 He decided he would rather sing for a living so he cleaned up his act and started hanging out in London while The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks and others were developing the British invasion of The United States.

Long John Baldry gave him a place in his band, but Rod wanted his own recording contract. 5 record companies turned him down because his voice was too rough and he wasn’t pretty enough. Finally, in 1964, Decca Records picked up the 19-year-old and he eventually exploded around the world.

Surviving the blues, ballads, booze, and blondes, the Scottish street singer who made it to Hollywood is coming to Denver.
