Sheriff’s Department Investigating Fatal Child Shooting

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department is looking into the fatal shooting of eight year old Gage McClellan Saturday night as an accidental shooting. The agency says deputies were called to the vicinity of 311 South Greeley shortly before 7pm Saturday. Investigators say they found an eight year old juvenile dead of what appeared to be a single gunshot wound in a field at that address. Deputies say another juvenile of about the same age as the vicitim was at the scene and led investigaters  to a .25 caliber handgun about 30 yards from where the body of the victim was found.  Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna conducted an autopsy Monday that found the boy had died of the single gunshot wound. Luna says it appears the wound was not self-inflicted and that the shooting is now being investigated as an accident.
