Steenbergen Sees Steady Economic Growth
Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and C-E-O Dale Steenbergen says the Laramie County economy is doing fairly well in most areas. He notes the county unemployment rate is gradually declining and says new home sales in the area are increasing as well. Steenbergen also points to construction in industrial areas of the city as a hopeful sign. Steenbergen also says that even though there may not be a lot of oil drilling going on in Laramie County, the Niobrara oil play is making a positive contribution to economic growth. He says that many oilfield service companies are locating in Cheyenne, in part because of it’s access to two interstate highways as well as the Union Pacific Railroad. Steenbergen says 27 oil rigs are currently running in Weld County, Colorado just over the state line.
