Cheyenne is one of the safest places in the country, according to a new study.

The Capital City ranked 32nd out of 182 metropolitan areas in the nationwide safe city study, scoring high marks for home and financial security, and a below-average risk level for natural disasters. Casper also fared well in the study. In spite of leading the country with the most fatal traffic accidents per capita, the Oil City ranked 35th overall.

Denver ranked among the most dangerous cities, finishing 160th out of 182 metropolitan areas in the safety study while Aurora, Colo. and Colorado Springs ranked 111th and 93rd, respectively. Other towns around the region include Billings, Mont., which ranked 64th, and Rapid City, S.D., which ranked 69th.

Columbia, Md. was ranked the safest city in the study, followed by Yonkers, N.Y., Plano, Texas, Gilbert, Ariz., and South Burlington, Vt. St. Louis, Mo. finished last, with Fort Lauderdale, Fla., San Bernadino, Calif., Detroit, Mich., and Baton Rouge, La. rounding out the five most dangerous cities.
