When you think of Cheyenne Frontier Days contestants, barrel racers and bull riders likely come to mind, but there's another kind of contestant most people know little about.

For several years now, the volunteers who work to put on the Daddy of 'em All have been competing for the unique distinction of having their design featured on CFD's commemorative lapel pin.

"Each year a design is selected and adapted to fit the pin," said Public Relations Chairman Mike Martin. "It's quite an honor amongst the almost 3,000 volunteers to win that contest."

Martin says about 10,000 of the pins are produced each year, many of which are handed out to Frontier Days sponsors, volunteers and special guests.

"They do get handed out to the public as well," said Martin. "We also hand them out at parades that we attend and rodeos that we visit throughout the spring and summer."

Because they're free and limited in number, the pins have become highly collectible, some fetching upwards of $100 on the internet.
