This Is Not How Mount Rushmore Was Supposed To Look
The original plans for Mount Rushmore intended to have four presidents showing from head to waist, but the project stopped in 1941 when the funding ran out.
No matter, the sculpture designed to help the economy by drawing tourists to this remote site still attracts about 2 million people per year to visit the unfinished monument to Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln.
Begun in 1927, the 6 story images were carved into the granite rock face that is today, Mount Rushmore where dynamite was the key tool to create this art nestled in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
