Wyoming had three high school football players make a choice to play football at the Division I level in college on Wednesday.

Rock Springs tight end Isaac Schoenfeld is now a Wyoming Cowboy, while Jackson’s Colter Dawson and Star Valley’s Lucas Chappell signed with the Air Force Falcons.

Schoenfeld was a three-star prospect and the top-rated recruit in the Cowboy State according to 247Sports.com. Dawson was ranked No. 2 and as a two-star prospect.

Schoenfeld committed back in mid-June to the Pokes. He’s a two-time all-state choice in Class 4A. That includes a unanimous selection at tight end and defensive end after the 2021 season.

In his senior season, Schoenfeld caught 35 passes for 477 yards and eight touchdowns. He added another 670 yards rushing and six touchdowns. On defense, Schoenfeld had 27 tackles with six sacks and two more tackles for loss. He had a fumble recovery, an interception, and three pass breakups. Schoenfeld led Rock Springs to a 10-2 record and helped the Tigers reach the 4A football state championship game.

Jackson’s Colter Dawson canceled the rest of his visits and signed his Letter of Intent at Air Force.

Dawson was a three-time all-state selection at linebacker for the Broncs. He led Class 3A with an average of 20.6 defensive points per game. Dawson finished the 2021 season with 102 total tackles. He had 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks. Dawson recovered four fumbles, had an interception, two pass breakups, and blocked four kicks. On offense, he had 51 catches for 859 yards and five touchdowns. Dawson helped the Jackson Broncs to an 8-3 record and a spot in the Class 3A state championship game for the second straight year.

Star Valley’s Lucas Chappell also signed with the Falcons on Wednesday.

Chappell was a three-time all-state pick on the offensive line for the Braves. He helped Star Valley to a 5-5 record and a semifinal appearance in the Class 3A football playoffs. Chappell helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 165.1 rushing yards and 139.7 passing yards per game. The Braves finished fourth in total offense at 304.8 yards per game, and they averaged 31.9 points per game. On defense, Chappell had 46 total tackles, which included five tackles for loss and four sacks. He also had four pass breakups, blocked a kick, and scored a defensive touchdown.
