The United States Air Force Thunderbirds have been a part of Cheyenne Frontier Days ever since 1953, when the Air Demonstration Squadron made their first appearance.

Their annual show centers around two locations, the Wyoming Air National Guard at Cheyenne Regional Airport and the aerobatic display, which soars over Laramie County Community College.

The only year the Thunderbirds did not perform in Cheyenne was in 2013, when they were grounded due to budget cuts.

Tragedy struck on July, 25, 1977, when a Thunderbird pilot was killed at Frontier Park. They had another close call in 2011, when they were forced to make an emergency landing. Luckily, nobody was injured in the incident.

In 2003, the Thunderbirds were inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame.
