You've heard it time and time again.

"Boy, you're in trouble if Yellowstone blows"

The super volcano that sits under Yellowstone National Park is surely something you could sit around and worry about, but also it hasn't gone off for thousands of years. Worrying about it, doesn't do you any good.

It seems every couple of years the topic comes back up, but scientist have confirmed that Yellowstone is an inactive volcano with low levels of being restless. There's currently nothing going on that would point in the direction of something happening.

That's should be a relief to those worried about it.

Now that the gloom and doom should be out of your mind, do you actually know anything about the area under the nations first national park?

It's really quite interesting and worth learning about. The activity has been happening for millions of year and has been a major reason for the changes that have been happening over the last thousands of years.

Thinking about everything that goes on underground at Yellowstone, all day, every day, is incredible to think about.

With all of the shifting, expanding and moving going on down there, Yellowstone is one of the most seismically active in the world. According to, there are between 1,500 and 2,500 earthquakes in Yellowstone every year and since 1973, there have been over 48,000 earthquakes in the region.

To put that number into perspective, Southern California has about 10,000 every year. So, even though Yellowstone is quite active, it's not as shaky as many places in the world.

If you've never learned about what's under Yellowstone, take 13 and 1/2 minutes and watch this video from Cosmos Lab. It's really informative and puts you in the loop of what's going on.
