Where Were The Crowds For Ribfest?
A warm Saturday summer night, cold beer on tap, live music in the open air and Bar-B-Cue, lots of tasty BBQ! But where were the crowds of people?
I took some friends to The Cheyenne Depot Plaza on Saturday night, with one thing on my mind. Tasty ribs from masters of the smoker who were bringing their “A game,” in a competition that was actually quite tough.
None of my group of 4 could agree on rib rankings at our table. “Better try that one again.” “I need to cleanse my palate, another beer please.”
One thing we did agree on was how sparse the crowd was that turned out for what I thought would be a success story. It was a benefit for the Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne, a worthy organization and they did a fine job of putting on the event. A friend of mine said the crowd was packed on Friday evening, but what happened on the heart of the night Saturday? I hope Sunday was better, what with the addition of a car show.
I really wanted to the Kiwanis get some funding for the good works they do. Turns out, each one of my group felt the same, and we each made our own donations. In addition to supporting that charity, for selfish reasons, I want this to happen again next year, and the year after! It’s great Q from near and far and I want more.
Side note: I found it odd that a family of six was just leaving this hot dog stand as we were arriving. I am certainly NOT knocking his fine wares, but when all this great bar-b-cue is just feet away? Models Doug & April pictured here, joined us inside for the main course and also went above and beyond with a contribution to the Kiwanis Club.
Cheyenne usually supports in activities like this. Admission was just $3, vendor prices were reasonable, there was great music and cold beer. What happened? Thanks to all who worked so hard on bring this event to life. Attendance is no measure of your accomplishments and our appreciation of your grand efforts.
Ribfest, a charitable event, was also a chance to buy a raffle ticket for this beast, that will support three great local charities.
