18 years ago today, The Who made the Guinness Book of World Records for performing the loudest concert in history (at the time, the record would stand for nearly a decade) during their concert at England’s Charlton Athletic Grounds

with 76,000 watts at 120 decibels, which is at the pain threshold and can cause hearing loss with prolonged exposure.

Pete Townshend suffers from hearing problems today, partly because of what The Who did on May 31st, 1976.

Or maybe I should say, The WHAT?     Whaaaat??
