Who are you picking to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup?

It's the 2014 finals of the National Hockey League beginning tonight, June 4, in Los Angeles with the Kings hosting the New York Rangers in a best of 7 series where the winner gets the Stanley Cup, who are you rooting for?

I'm going with the LA Kings all the way, they were my first and only live professional hockey game and they also have a strong team this year.

While living in Monrovia, just east of Pasadena in southern California, my roommate, Ian Whyte, was a big LA Kings fan. When a game was coming on, he'd put on his Wayne Gretzky jersey, make sure the fridge was stocked with Olde English 800 40's and be sure his mug was chillin' in the freezer. Then he'd be ready to sit on the couch and root for the Kings.

Ian took me to my first and only professional hockey game at the LA Forum. In person, the crack of the puck on a hockey stick could make you seek cover, much more menacing sounding than on television. Hockey fans are known for being some of the wildest audiences in sports, so there was lots of action even away from the ice.

With 'The Great One' still playing for the Kings, it was like watching a bit of history as Wayne Gretzky still had moves on the ice, eluding opposing players and scoring goals.

One of the players to watch for the LA Kings this season is #77 Jeff Carter, he has 9 goals this year, and 22 points in 21 games.

The puck drops at 6 p.m. MT tonight on NBC and game 2 will also be in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 7.

Who do you think will claim the 2014 Stanley Cup?
