Winter Storm Warnings, Watches Posted For SE Wyoming

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has posted winter storm warnings and watchers for some areas of southeast Wyoming, with up to 24 inches of snow expected in some mountain areas.

The weather service posted this statement on its website on Wednesday:

Winter Storm Warnings have been expanded to cover much of Carbon County, to include Rawlins, Baggs, Elk Mountain, and Arlington, as well as the Snowy Range today through Wednesday. Looking at snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches for the lower areas of Carbon County with 18-24 inches of new snow in the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges. Impacts to travel expected to increase for commuters on Interstate 80, Highways 287 and 789 this afternoon through Wednesday. Expect travel delays with snow covered roads and poor visibility. Could see a few thundersnow/snow squall events this afternoon into the evening hours tonight. Should you happen to be unfortunate enough to drive into one of these, expect near zero visibility with wind gusts in excess of 50-60mph. This is an event not to be taken lightly as dangerous driving conditions are very possible late this afternoon through the overnight hours. Keep an eye on the weather today for later updates in the forecast. For those east of the warnings and watches, snow is expected to spread east into the southeast Wyoming Plains into the Panhandle Wednesday morning.
