Wyoming dips into transfer portal, welcomes home Lyman native

LARAMIE -- The NCAA Transfer portal doesn't only apply to the football field or the basketball court.

University of Wyoming swimming & diving coach Dave Denniston announced Tuesday that he will be welcoming three new transfers for the upcoming season, including one female swimmer with local roots from Mountain West foe, San Diego State.

Former Aztec and Lyman, Wyoming native Brynlee Busskohl, along with Quinn Cynor from the University of Cincinnati and Keegan March from Cal Lutheran will arrive on campus in Laramie this fall.

“One of the nice things about the transfer portal, for us, is once the athlete has been in a different school and seen what college life is like, they see how authentic our team and program is and are really drawn to that,” Denniston said in a school press release. “The value of that, you can’t put a dollar sign on.”

Those three join junior Carly Palmer who transferred to UW from Boise State a season ago. Denniston saw what Palmer brought to the team and the positive reverberations her presence had.

“Our academic services are some of the best in the country, and our trainer Thomas (DeSimone) will help any athlete on the team at any time,” Denniston said. “That’s something that’s unique to our university. Some of those things we just know are there, that we take advantage of, (our transfers) appreciate it a little more.

“That appreciation spreads throughout the team.”

BUSSKOHL

The Lyman product was a three-time 3A state champion and was named the 2019 Conference Swimmer of the Year. Busskohl holds state records in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke.

She also holds Lyman High School record in the 50, 100, and 200 free, the 100 breast, and the 200 individual medley.

Busskohl helped lead SDSU to a Mountain West title during her lone season in Southern California. She swam the breaststroke and sprint events for the Aztecs.

CYNOR

Cynor hails from Woodstock, Illinois. He showcased his versatility with the Bearcats a season ago.

He primarily swam freestyle and backstroke events along with competing in the individual medley. He helped Cincinnati finish second at the American Athletic Conference championships.

MARCH 

March is from University Place, Washington. He specialized in freestyle events in one year with the Kingsmen.

March earned All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition as a member of the 200-yard free relay team. He helped his team to a top half finish at the SCIAC championships.
