One of Mother Nature’s greatest works, Yellowstone National Park gets some recognition from travel site Lonely Planet, as the 3rd best place to visit. An honor to be sure, but look who they chose as last year’s number one choice.

“It's Wonderland. Old Faithful and the majority of the world's geysers are preserved here. They are the main reason the park was established in 1872 as America's first national park—an idea that spread worldwide. A mountain wilderness, home to grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk, the park is the core of one of the last, nearly intact ecosystems in the Earth’s temperate zone.” - NPS

Yellowstone contains about ½ of the world’s hydrothermal features, with over 10,000 hydrothermal features, including over 300 geysers, in the park.

With about 38 days until Spring, March 19th, people are laying out their vacation budgets. Wyoming has been doing well and looks to do even better, since Lonely Planet named Yellowstone National Park the 3rd best place to visit in the United States in 2016.

Lonely Planet ranked Philadelphia as the No. 1 place to visit in the United States saying they pick the "top 10 most exciting, intriguing and up-and-coming" destinations for the list, and called Philadelphia "a national treasure." I might argue for Yellowstone to be number 1, but then, there’s a credibility factor for me. Last year, the New York City borough of Queens was their number 1 U.S. destination for 2015.

The rest of their top 10 list for 2016 is, in order: Natchez, Miss.; Yellowstone National Park; Birmingham, Ala.; Alaska; Somerville, Mass.; northwest Arkansas; San Antonio; southern New Mexico; and Milwaukee.
