Wyoming is one of the coolest states in the country, literally. A study ranked the Cowboy State as the fifth coolest place in America during the summer months.

Wyoming's average temperature from late June to late September is 62.1 degrees, according to records compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration between 1981 and 2018. Casper is the warmest town in the state with an average summertime temperature of 67.2 degrees.

Only Alaska (50.5 degrees), Washington (61.6 degrees), Idaho (61.8 degrees), and Oregon (62.0 degrees) have a lower average statewide temperature than Wyoming in the summertime.

Montana ranked just behind Wyoming as the sixth coolest state with an average summer temperature of 62.7 degrees. Colorado is the ninth coolest state, averaging 64.5 degrees in the summer. South Dakota's average summer temperature of 66.3 is the 12th coolest in the country. Utah also ranked among the 20 coolest states with an average summer temperature of 68.3 degrees.

Texas is the hottest state during the summer, according to the study, with an average temperature of 81.3 degrees. Louisiana (81.1 degrees), Florida (80.5 degrees), Mississippi (79.8 degrees), and Oklahoma (79.8 degrees) round out the five warmest summer states.
