A Powell man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly shooting his wife in the head.

David Eugene Williamson, 64, was arrested Saturday in the death of 65-year-old Shirley Williamson.

Shortly before 4:45 a.m. Saturday, the Powell Police Department received a 911 call from 956 Lane 11 in Park County. The man who called said that his "wife is dead, send the cops," according to a press release from the Park County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived at the home where the couple lived and found David Williamson calmly sitting on the front porch.

When deputies asked him what was going on, Williamson allegedly said, "Go inside, you will see. She is in the bedroom."

Deputies found Shirley Williamson lying dead on a bed in the rear bedroom. She had an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of her head, and a semi-automatic handgun was lying on the bed at her feet.

David Williamson was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Park County Detention Center, where he awaits a preliminary hearing.

No further information has been released. The matter remains under investigation.
