Wyoming Outlasts Utah State, 95-87 [VIDEO]
A hot-shooting first half helped the Wyoming Cowboys to a 95-87 victory over Utah State Wednesday night in Laramie.
Wyoming (12-5, 2-2) stopped a two-game losing skid with the win. They knocked down 12 three-pointers and shot nearly 61 percent in the opening 20 minutes. UW is now 10-0 at home this season.
The Pokes used a 16-5 run in the first half to take control of the game. Wyoming trailed 22-21 with 12:16 left in the half. Four 3-pointers in the stretch, including a pair from Alexander Aka Gorski, spurred the Cowboys to a 37-27 lead. A 20-8 spurt ended the first half with UW in front, 57-39, at the break.
The lead reached 22 points just over four minutes into the second half. Utah State rallied with a 10-0 run that cut it to 72-60 with 12:19 left. The Cowboys pushed it back to 17 before the Aggies kept the pressure on and trimmed it to six points with 29 seconds left.
Wyoming cooled off in the second half and shot only 37 percent. They also had 10 turnovers after only one in the first half.
Five Cowboys scored in double figures led by Hayden Dalton with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Aka Gorski scored 18 on a career-high six 3-pointers. Alan Herndon added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jason McManamen added 11, while Cody Kelley chipped in 10 points. Wyoming shot 50 percent for the game.
Utah State (8-8, 2-3) was led by Jalen Moore with 20 points. The Aggies shot 51 percent from the field.
The Pokes return to action Saturday against Nevada. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
