“A 13-year-old boy was flown to St. John's Medical Center in Jackson, Wyo., after he fell into a hot pool in Yellowstone National Park's Upper Geyser Basin on Saturday night. The teen was apparently being carried by his father, who slipped” according to billingsgazette. The father declined treatment having been burned by splashing.

ktvq says “Officials reminded park visitors that because there is no way to tell from looking at the ground if the water is hot, it's important to be careful around the many hot springs.“ and “This is the first thermal burn incident reported in the park so far this year.”

You may recall the Canadian tourists who ventured off the boardwalk and onto Grand Prismatic Spring earlier this year. They got lucky that they weren’t injured more badly. Yellowstone hot springs can reach temperatures of 200 degrees. We won’t even get into ‘when animals attack.

Signs and warnings are posted prominently, yet visitors still manage to get injured or killed in our parks. It seems to me, mostly by their own actions. Be careful and more importantly, considerate out there.

For Rangers, paramedics and first-responders, it's going to be a long season.
