Officials with Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power and the Cheyenne Police Department say there is yet another scam involving phony utility company employees demanding money from local residents.

CLFP spokeswoman Sharon Fain says the calls are made to local customers demanding immediate payment of a supposed bill on a pre-paid debit card. The customer is threatened with an immediate power shut-off if the payment is not made.

The utility will never demand payment via a pre-paid debit card and any legitimate employee who contacts you will have access to your account informatio, as well as other specific details about your bill.

Company employees who come to your home will have a photo ID issued by the utility. You can also verify whether calls or visits involve legitimate employees by calling 1-866-264-8003.
