Cheyenne Prairie Power Station To Open This Year
A spokeswoman for Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power says work on the new Cheyenne Prairie generating plant is on track for an opening later this year.
Sharon Fain says work on the plant is now more than 60 percent complete. All major equipment has now been set on foundations, and work on above ground piping and electrical installation is underway. Start-up and commissioning is planned for this spring and fall.
The plant should be operational by sometime in October, according to Fain. Once completed, the natural gas-powered plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power 100,000 homes.
Company officials also say the plant should help protect customers against big swings in their electric bills.
