Gov Mead Proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month

Governor Matt Mead Proclaimed April Child Abuse Prevention Month in Wyoming, during a ceremony Wednesday at the State Capitol. Lynn Huyler, Board President for Child Advocacy Centers of Wyoming says child abuse continues to be a problem in Wyoming.

According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System report, in 2011 there were 718 child victims and 448 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect in Wyoming. Governor Matt Mead says “it is not and cannot be a mere platitude that children represent our future.” After the reading of the proclamation, the Governor and first Lady Carol Mead as well as child advocates planted blue and silver pinwheels on the east lawn of the Capitol Building as a way to focus attention on the issue.
