Laramie County Commission candidate M. Lee Hassenour says he has discovered that state election law mandates that one of the two new county commission seats being added this year must be for a two year term, while the other seat will be for four years. Hassenour was instrumental in the drive in 2010 to expand the county commission from three to five members, and says he only this week became aware of the state law on the issue. He says he feels partially responsible for the shorter term on one of the seats, and so will voluntarily run for that seat rather than the seat with the longer term. Hassenour says he has not spoken to any of the other commission candidates about which seat they will run for. Hassenour, a well-known Laramie County political activist and tea-party advocate, is running for the commission as a Republican.
