Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says new businesses and business expansion in Cheyenne should add roughly 250-300 jobs to the Laramie County economy.

While the mayor says not all of the jobs will be full-time positions, he calls the situation "very, very positive".

A number of new businesses or expansions of existing businesses have been announced in recent months, including plans by Magpul Industries to relocate their firearms-accessories manufacturing operation to Cheyenne from Colorado.

Plans for a new Microsoft Data Center were announced several months ago, and Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen has said he expects continued growth related to oil exploration and development.

In many cases that means oil-field service companies which have moved here because of oil development in both Wyoming and northern Colorado.

Kaysen also says groundbreaking on a new bio-fuels plant is scheduled for early next month. A new Hilton Garden Inn is also planned for downtown Cheyenne.
