Visit Cheyenne President Darren Rudloff is urging Laramie County residents to vote for renewal of a lodging tax that has been in place since the late 1980's.

The ten percent tax is levied on users of hotel and motel rooms to pay for promotional efforts to draw visitors to the county. Voters reconsider renewal of the tax every four years, and it will be on the Laramie County ballot again this year. He says it's important to remember that local residents don't pay the tax unless they stay in a lodging facility.

Rudloff also says that because lodging taxes are extremely common they don't discourage people from visiting Laramie County. He says money raised by the taxes are the main source of funding for his organization, which works to promote visitation to Cheyenne and Laramie County.
