They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you're nursing a hangover on a Saturday morning, that's definitely true. Say what you will about the restaurant scene in Cheyenne. Sure, it lacks diversity and, yes, the entire town usually closes down after 9 p.m. However, there are several great breakfast diners here in the Capital City.

Here's our completely subjective list of Cheyenne's Five Best Breakfast Diners:

1. The Luxury Diner - Any place that's been continuously operating in the same location since 1926 must be doing something right. This old train car is far from luxurious, but its rustic decor and traditional fare earn it the top spot on this list. The owners recently closed this West Lincolnway institution temporarily. They plan to remodel the inside, upgrade the menu and reopen soon. Let's hope those renovations don't take away from its nostalgic appeal.

2. R + B Breakfast Club - This Elvis-themed diner on East Lincolnway takes you back in time. Bring a hearty appetite, because their breakfast burritos are gigantic. I dare you to finish the whole thing. Whatever you decide to order, make sure to try their green chili. It's as good as you'll find anywhere.

3. The Egg + I - This popular franchise definitely doesn't feel like a chain restaurant. The menu offers an upscale take on traditional breakfast favorites, with pancakes that are as big as a hubcap, several fantastic eggs benedict dishes, an assortment of gourmet coffees and they even make their own hot sauce.

4. The Down Home Diner - Located next to a gas station on West Lincolnway, this greasy spoon is a great alternative if you don't have time to wait in a long line for breakfast on the weekend. The service is fast and friendly. Not only will they get you in and out in a hurry, but the grub's good too. As one reviewer described it on Trip Advisor, it's "food like Momma used to cook".

5. Penny's Diner - Like the Luxury Diner and the R+B Breakfast Club, nostalgia is on the menu at this retro 50's joint. The menu is typical diner fare, but the portions are good and the price is nice. Plus, they're open 24 hours and, as we all know, breakfast just tastes better at 2 a.m.
