The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is proposing a rate increase of 4.1 percent on water and sewer rates, which would take effect January 1, 2013, according to BOPU spokesman Clint Bassett. If approved, the increase would hike the average water bill in Cheyenne by about $1.71  and the average sewer bill by $1.56. The BOPU board has already signed off on the proposal. The Cheyenne City Council Finance Committee is scheduled to take up the increase on May 21.  The full city council will have to give it’s approval before the rate hike is finalized. Bassett says the 4.1 percent request would pass along the increased operating costs the board is facing in providing water and sewer service to city residents.
