The sun was hot and the air a bit dusty in the Cheyenne Frontier Days arena in Frontier Park. Cowboys from across the country were competing in the 6 hour slack in their effort to rope calves.

Over one hundred tie-down ropers could be seen either in the arena or on their horses waiting for their turn. One reason for the slack event, is because there is simply not enough time for cowboys to qualify once the big rodeo begins on Saturday, July 18.

When the dust cleared, the two on top were Justin Macha of Needville, Texas and Chris Demases of Boyd, Texas, who tied first place at 10.5 second runs.

You can get more details about slack events and times here. The event is FREE and a great way to spend the morning as you prime yourself for the big rodeo.
