Drivers in several Wyoming counties should take note of a "superload" which will be moved through Laramie and across the southern portion of the state on Sunday.

The superload contains a compressor generator building. It's 18 feet wide, 22 feet high, 140 feet long and weighs roughly 400,000 pounds.

WYDOT says the superload will arrive at the port of entry south of Laramie on Saturday and will leave the port around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Since the load is too tall to pass beneath the Interstate 80 bridge over U.S. 287, it will head eastbound on I-80 before performing a U-turn on the interstate and exiting back onto U.S. 287. During the U-turn, traffic on I-80 will be temporarily stopped.

The superload will then go north on U.S. 287 -- which becomes Third Street in downtown Laramie -- and continue to WYO 487 north. Traffic signals in Laramie will be temporarily removed as needed to accommodate the vehicle.

It will then take WYO 487 to WYO 220 south, then head for Muddy Gap, where it will again catch U.S. 287 north to Jeffrey City.

A county road will take the load from Jeffrey City to Wamsutter, where it will enter I-80 westbound.

On Monday, the superload will continue west along I-80, make a U-turn at milepost 130 and return to exit 130. From there, it will take the I-80 frontage road west to Middle Baxter Road, then continue to WYO 430.

From there, it will turn onto Bitter Creek Road and continue to its final destination.

Because of the length of the superload, safely passing the vehicle on two-lane roads may be difficult.
