Native American petroglyphs are abundant in Wyoming, and a tremendous reminder about life thousands of years ago.

In nearly every one of Wyoming's counties there is at least one spot with some sort of ancient writing. Check out some of our favorites!

White Mountain Petroglyphs
Near Rock Springs
The White Mountain Petroglyphs are ascribed on a 300-foot cliff face. Native Americans considered this a sacred site and left their mark on the sandstone walls.

Legend Rock
Thermopolis
Legend Rock is marked with nearly 300 individual petroglyphs. The rock was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site
Near Hyattville
A large sandstone cliff in the Big Horn Mountains displays hundreds of Native American petroglyphs.

Near Kaycee
In an area known for the "Hole-In-The-Wall Gang," you can find hundreds of petroglyphs dating back nearly 10,000 years.
