Alyssa Bedard of Rock Springs High School has been selected as the 2019-20 Gatorade Wyoming Girls Soccer Player of the Year on Wednesday.

Bedard is the first player chosen for this honor from Rock Springs High School.

The senior forward and midfielder finished her prep career with 86 goals and 36 assists, according to a release from the Gatorade Company. Both of those marks are school records.

Bedard is a three-time All-State and All-Conference honoree. She scored 34 goals and dished out 16 assists in 2019 and led the Tigers to a third-place finish at last year’s Class 4A state tournament. Rock Springs went 20-1 a year ago.

She also excelled in indoor track, where Bedard won seven state titles and was also a three-time All-State selection. Alyssa was a finalist for the prestigious Milward Simpson Award in 2020.

Off the field, Bedard had a 4.22 GPA, was Vice President of the Student Council, and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, blood-donation drives, nursing homes, and youth soccer programs.

In the release, Rock Springs head coach Stephen Pyer had high praise for the Tigers’ star, who signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Wyoming beginning this fall.

“Alyssa is a phenomenal player and a gifted athlete. What makes her so great is her speed, footwork, and knowledge of the game. She’s a complete game-changer.”

The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. It distinguishes Bedard as Wyoming’s best high school girls’ soccer player. She is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year which will be announced later this month.

Bedard joins recent winners Grace Roswadovski (2018-19) of Thunder Basin High School, Lexi Pulley (2017-18 & 2016-17) from Laramie High School, and Robbi Ryan (2015-16) of Sheridan High School, among the state’s former award winners.
