Capitol Dome In Cheyenne Gets New Gold Leaf Finish [PHOTOS]
After 130 years of hail, snow, sleet, rain and sun damage the dome on the Capitol building is finally being repaired and gilded in gold leaf by the Gilders' Studio.
The Capitol dome is built out of copper, it was starting to have water leaks, missing elements, corrosion and much more. Renaissance Roofing Inc. redid the decorative pieces on the upper section, the original pieces had to be removed and remade due to so much hail damage. It took six days to cover the dome in seven ounces of gold.
There are only ten states that have a gold leaf Capitol dome, and Wyoming is one of them.
