Survey Says Most Workers are Tired, Denver Among Sleepiest Cities
Are you yawing at work? You're not alone.
Getting a decent amount of sleep is easier said than done. It's hard enough to crawl into bed at a decent hour, but more often than not the struggle is drifting off into that pleasant dreamland. If sleep was currency, we'd all be broke.
The reality is that 74 percent of Americans are working while tired.
That's right. Nearly three-quarters of workers are showing up to work running on fumes. This is according to a survey conducted by Accountemps which revealed how often employees worked while tired. 31 percent admitted they were sleepy "very often", while 43 percent responded with "somewhat often." Of the close to 3,000 people surveyed, 24 percent said they felt tired "not very often" and only two percent reported they were "never" tired.
I think we should ask that two percent again.
What's worse is that the lack of sleep is costing our economy quite a bit of money. The Rand Corporation reported that insufficient sleep is costing our nation $410 billion a year due to mistakes. Not to mention, one mistake on a big order or a lengthy project could result in an early termination.
And as it turns out, some cities are more sleep deprived than others. Here are the top 10 sleepiest cities in the nation. Notice New York City, the city that never sleeps, doesn't make an appearance until number 14.
