The Cheyenne East Thunderbirds ran their season record to 5-1 with a hard-fought 16-14 road win over the Laramie Plainsmen Friday night.

Cornerback Jamis Lopez ran back an interception 23 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the T-Birds a 16-7 lead, and East was able to run out the clock after Laramie scored a touchdown with under four minutes left to seal the win. Cheyenne's two other Class 4A High School football teams were not as successful, however.

Cheyenne Central gave up 214 yards rushing to Brock Spiegelberg as Casper Kelly Walsh (4-2) defeated the Indians (1-5) 39-27. Central has their big traditional rivalry game against Cheyenne East on Friday night at Okie Blanchard Stadium.

And the Cheyenne South Bison (0-6) fell to #1 rated Sheridan (6-0) on Friday night by a score of 52-7. The Bison will try to break into the win column next week when they host Laramie.
