Cheyenne Restaurant to Close After Ten Years with Hopes to Return
One of Cheyenne's most unique restaurants is set to close its doors on August 12, 2023. The Nipa Hut, a Filipino restaurant whose diverse menu brought a taste of the Philippines to Cheyenne, announced the impending closure on its Facebook page yesterday, July 14.
Cheyenne's Nipa Hut to Close Its Doors in August
The news of Nipa Hut's closure comes as a surprise to many. The restaurant has served Cheyenne for a decade with its flavorful menu and friendly customer service.
The closure comes after the Nipa Hut received notice that the building the restaurant currently occupies may be sold. The restaurant's Facebook announcement detailed the reason for the closure, saying,
"We were notified in advance about the possible sale of the building we currently occupy. With our lease expiring soon, we thought it was a good time to end this chapter as a restaurant."
The post went on to thank Cheyenne residents for their support all these years, saying with a fond farewell, "We loved cooking for you in our bamboo hut of the high plains."
Will the Nipa Hut Reopen?
Though the Nipa Hut will close its storefront doors, the Facebook announcement reassured Cheyenne residents that the restaurant owners "hope to go back to our roots as a food truck serving at events and providing catering options." But, a reopening as a food truck is not in the near future, as the announcement added that "we've got a long ways before that can happen but we'll keep you updated."
For now, Cheyenne residents can get their fill of the Nipa Hut's cuisine by visiting the restaurant before its imminent closing date. The restaurant plans to remain open through Frontier Days.
