Have you heard who was picked as the new head coach of the Cheyenne Stampede?

You might recognize the name, Gary Gill was re-hired as the new head coach of the Cheyenne Stampede junior hockey team on Monday, April 6.

Gill coached the Cheyenne Stampede to a record of 29 wins,18 losses and two ties during the 2013 to 2014 season. He helped the team reach the top of the Western States Hockey Leagues's Mountain Division standings and led them to their only playoff victory.

The coach was offered a raise at the end of his one season but left the Stampede to deal with a family matter. Last November, Gill returned to coaching in Burlington, Vermont leading their junior hockey team, The Lumberjacks, to a record of 23-19-0-5.

The Cheyenne Stampede finished last season with the worst record of their four year existence, 17-27-3-1. Head coach Eric Ballard was fired after the Stampede was eliminated from the playoffs March 7.

New head coach Gary Gill will spend the next few months attending hockey showcases and recruiting players for next season. We wish much success to Gill and the Cheyenne Stampede.
