The CABA World Series is a baseball tournament that’s brought in 14 teams from across the Western U.S. to Cheyenne.

CABA stands for the Continental Amateur Baseball Association. This World Series event is a Northwest Regional qualifier. There are four teams from Wyoming, the host Post 6, plus the Gillette Roughriders, Laramie Rangers, and Casper Crush. There are five teams from Colorado, a pair from Washington, and one each from Arizona, Montana, and New Mexico in the tournament field. They are divided into two, seven-team pools. Each team is playing six pool play games. The two teams with the best records in each pool will advance to Sunday's semifinals with the winners meeting for the championship.

This is the second time in three years this tournament has come to Wyoming’s Capital City. So what is this event? How did it get back to Cheyenne? And, what are three American Legion baseball teams from Wyoming doing in it?

WyoPreps’ David Settle caught up with Cheyenne Post Six manager Ty Lain to discuss the details. He describes how WYCO Baseball Academy went after the tournament, how EnFuego Baseball Academy coach Steve Avila is involved, how it brings together different types of baseball teams, and what happens after this to the winner in the video above.

Lain went on to explain that this gives another team from the Western U.S. a chance to advance to the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, NM July 24 through August 3, 2019, instead of always having to go through teams in California. CABA is also affiliated with A.A.B.C., which is the American Amateur Baseball Congress.
