Did you get your tickets to see the Colorado Avalanche make history?

The Colorado Avalanche will play their first ever outdoor hockey games at Coors Field this weekend against the Detroit Red Wings.

Saturday night's game has been sold out for months, but we want to congratulate the winner of our contest Nate Swan of Cheyenne who picked up that hockey trip to Denver. Tickets are still available for the Friday, February 26, Alumni Game that begins at 5 p.m.

A free Spectator Plaza is set up outside of Coors Field for hockey fans to visit on Friday and Saturday. Activities include music, food and beverages and interactive hockey-themed attractions. It's located along Blake St. and requires no tickets, it will be open Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 2 until 6 p.m.

The games are part of the NHL 2016 Coors Light Stadium Series and when the attendance for Saturday's game is counted, the total for all of their 17 regular-season outdoor games so far will surpass one million fans.

The grounds crew has their work cut out for them as temperatures are expected in the 50's in Denver on Friday and Saturday with the overnight low expected around 23 degrees. The 2-inch layer of ice could get a little sloppy. According to the Avalanche's website, 3,500 gallons of coolant are being used to keep the ice frozen. It took 20,000 gallons of water to create the two-inch layer of ice on Coors Field. Some of that water was brought in from the Coors Brewery in Golden.
