Developing: Man Pulled From Water at Alcova; Condition Unknown
A man was taken for emergency medical treatment Thursday after he fell from a jet ski at Alcova Reservoir and was unable to pull himself out of the water, prompting a significant emergency response.
His medical condition could not be confirmed Thursday evening.
The man has not been identified publicly. Brian Olsen, regional wildlife supervisor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in Casper, told K2 Radio News that the man is in his thirties.
Olsen was on the other side of the lake when the incident occurred, but said that the man in question fell off of a jet ski and could not get back on the watercraft near the mouth of Fremont Canyon early in the afternoon.
"A boater that came by assisted him to the boat dock, where he needed medical attention right away. That individual received medical attention until the ambulance showed up and he was transported to the Wyoming Medical Center," Olsen said.
The man received CPR at the dock. Olsen said it was unclear whether the man was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
Olsen said he did not know whether the man was intoxicated when he fell from the jet ski.
"I think it was a rental jet ski, so that probably means it was an inexperienced rider. He did have a life jacket on," Olsen added.
Responding agencies included the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Natrona County Sheriff's Office, and Wyoming Medical Center, Olsen said.
"Life flight was there, but he was in a location where life flight could not land," Olsen said.
The accident occurred on the busy first day of a holiday weekend, and Olsen wanted to remind people who head out to Alcova for relaxation to celebrate safely.
"The most important thing is to watch out for other boaters," he said. "Wear your life jacket and if you plan on drinking alcohol on the holiday weekend, make sure you have a designated driver -- not only for your vehicle but for a boat."
