Are you ready for the winter weather?

It won't be long before we're trading in our rakes for snow shovels here in Cheyenne. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of southeastern Wyoming through Thursday morning.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning for the south Laramie range including Buford, Vedauwoo and Harriman. Total snow accumulations could add up to six inches or more around the area. With winds picking up, visibility could drop below a half mile during the heavy snow.

If you have any travel plans during this time period, be aware that you might run into icy and snow covered roads, especially Wednesday night. Motorists considering travel between Cheyenne and Laramie should be especially careful.

Also part of winterizing includes raking the last leaves off your yard, disconnecting and draining hoses and stowing them for the season. If you have pesticides or latex paint, store them in a place where they won't freeze.

This is also the time of year to clean out those rain gutters so they'll be able to handle all the runoff from the snow when it shows up. We all know it's coming, ready or not.
