Grateful Memories From Salt Lake City 1995

This would be the last time I'd see Jerry Garcia perform in concert. The Grateful Dead played three nights at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City February 19th through the 21st.

The band was playing their first shows at this venue and the first in Utah since 1983 and it was the first time in twelve years that the band had begun it's performance year outside of the bay area.

My wife, her best friend Shell and I rented a 1995 Dodge Spirit and drove across Wyoming to the Bee Hive State for the Monday night show on February 20th. When we arrived, the Delta Center was completely surrounded by Salt Lake City Police cars. Hmmm...a little bit paranoid with all the hippies walking around?

Appropriately one of the songs the Grateful Dead played was a cover of the Rolling Stone's "Last Time" and it really was as Jerry Garcia died later that year on August 9th, 1995.
