Imagine it’s Christmas and you have no food to put on the table for your family.  The grim fact is this is the reality for several families’ right here in Cheyenne and surrounding communities. That’s why the American Legion Post #6, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, several area bar establishments and countless volunteers are all pulling together to help out these families with the Cheyenne Community Christmas Food Basket Program--and you can help put food on these empty tables this holiday season, too!

Jackie, with the American Legion Post #6, along with Alf, from the Redwood Lounge, said that last year the need for these food baskets was at an all time high. More than 1,300 food baskets were given out last year, and they're expecting to give out even more this year.

WHAT IF YOU WANT TO GIVE?
There’s several ways you can give to the Cheyenne Community Christmas Food Basket Program:

  1. Visit some of the local bar establishments (like the Redwood Lounge, Alf’s Pub, The Eagle’s Nest and others) and ask for a bar buck. You can donate as much as you want with this bar buck, then you get to sign it, and they’ll display it on their wall.  The bar that collects the most bar bucks wins! (Although there’s not any losers in this friendly competition between the bar establishments, local families in need are the ones that benefit the most, with all the proceeds from the bar bucks going to the food basket program!)
  2. You can call the Wyoming Tribune Eagle at 307-634-3361 and donate to the Empty Stocking Fund. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle will keep a tally of how many of their “empty stockings” are filled with donations and they’ll also keep track of who donated.  All of the proceeds go to the food basket program as well!

WHAT IF YOU NEED HELP?
If you have or know of a family in need, please call 307-632-5004 and you can speak with a volunteer about filling out an application and receiving a basket. They’ll be taking calls until THIS SUNDAY, Dec 8th at 6pm. After sunday, the phone bank will be closed so volunteers can start filling those baskets for these families with turkey and all the trimmings, along with other food items to help these families get through the holiday season!

WHAT IF YOU WANT TO HELP?
The American Legion Post #6 also needs lots of volunteers to help put these food baskets together.  If you’re interested in volunteering, you can call the American Legion Bingo Hall a call at 307-635-7213.

No matter how much you give, every donation means a hot meal for countless families right here in Cheyenne and surrounding areas. Please find it in your hearts to give to the Cheyenne Community Christmas Food Basket Program. So many families will be so grateful, and their Christmas season will be a little brighter because of your generosity!
